What Problems Should We Consider When Developing FPV Systems?

What problems should we consider if developing floating PV systems?

1. As an important supporting platform of floating photovoltaic systems, the floating body platform is an important link related to the normal operation of the whole photovoltaic power station. At present, the whole life cycle of the photovoltaic power station is 25 years. The floating body platform must have good corrosion resistance, low density, frost resistance, wind resistance, and other characteristics to match it.

Japan Hyogo Prefecture's large floating photovoltaic power station selected high-density polyethylene as the floating body platform, which is polyethylene odorless and non-toxic. It has excellent low-temperature resistance and has resistance to most acid and alkali erosion. It is insoluble in general solvents at room temperature. It has small water absorption, excellent electrical insulation, and good impact resistance. However, nitric acid and sulfuric acid have a strong destructive effect on polyethylene, which is easy to burn and continues to burn after leaving the fire, and it is prone to photooxidation, thermal oxidation, ozone decomposition, and degradation under the action of ultraviolet light. Therefore, you can try to be more resistant to photooxidation, thermal oxidation and UV profile than polyethylene, or through the coating outside the profile to enhance the above defense performance, so that the floating body platform is more durable and has a longer service life.

China is the country with the richest bamboo resources, the largest bamboo forest area and the largest bamboo output in the world, and it is known as the "Kingdom of bamboo". There are about 3.3 million hectares of bamboo forests in China, accounting for more than 30 percent of the world's total, and bamboo production accounts for about one-third of the world's total, which is not available in Japan. It has built floating photovoltaic power stations.

In the pursuit of green and low-carbon today, bamboo is not only low cost (rough-processed bamboo is 1000 yuan/ton, and the price is about 1/6 of polyethylene). It has low energy consumption, and the bamboo raft made of it has a more shallow draft, buoyancy and other characteristics. However, the average service life of the untreated bamboo raft is only 2 or 3 years. If the bamboo products are treated to make them have better corrosion resistance in the water, the cost of the floating photovoltaic systems will be greatly reduced.

2. Suitable site selection is the key to the success of the experiment, and the experiment can be conducted in lakes and reservoirs in the climate and wind zone within the mainland. For example, the Jinsha River has the characteristics of abundant and stable runoff, low wind speed, good light conditions and good development conditions.

3. The floating photovoltaic system can not only realize the capacity of a grid-connected, but also serve as a distributed energy storage photovoltaic power station to provide powerful support for aquaculture, scenic tourism and ecology on the surface. As a distributed off-grid energy storage power station, the selection of energy storage equipment is the key. The selection of low-cost and high-performance batteries will be particularly important.
